LAS VEGAS - Two new digital pen-based solutions were unveiled at the ACORD/LOMA show, held in Las Vegas in June. Both solutions take advantage of technology developed by Anoto (Lund, Sweden) that enables electronic transcription of handwriting. The pen unit uses an infrared camera attached to a functional ink pen that tracks the pen's position on a light pattern grid visible on specially printed paper. By tracking the exact coordinates through which the pen passes, the device records the user's pen strokes, according to a product announcement by FileNet (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Accenture (Chicago).
The Digital Pen Connector software solution, developed by Accenture Technology Labs, captures pen strokes, translates them into usable data and delivers the data to the FileNet enterprise content management (ECM) system. FileNet ECM then integrates the data in a central content repository for sharing and launches business processes according to the requirements of the business, the vendor says.
Hewlett-Packard's (Palo Alto, Calif.) HP Form Automation System incorporates the vendor's HP Digital Pen 200 product - which writes, captures and stores information on digitally enabled paper forms - and HP Workflow Connect 200 software, which manages each step of the forms workflow, interfacing with HP LaserJet printers, digital pens and the enterprise back end.
