As the financial crisis continues to produce sensationally bad news, one might be forgiven for thinking that Thanksgiving Day should be replaced this year by a national day of lamentation or atonement. Almost everybody is likely to lose something, many have lost much, and nobody knows how much they might still stand to lose.

Nevertheless, thanks and lamentations aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive; we can still be thankful that we are as wealthy and healthy as we are. Things could always be worse. We can also be thankful about what we have enjoyed, even if only retrospectively. Many Americans will give thanks for our new president; many will give thanks for their children, their spouses and other loved ones; many will be thankful for a day off work, if nothing else.

While the editors of Insurance & Technology won’t have a full day off tomorrow, I&T Daily will. And since both publication and creators will not return until next Monday, the first of December, today we wish you a happy Thanksgiving Day.
