Speaking of homeowners insurance, USAA recently patented a data recorder that "can track the temperature, wind speed and mechanical vibrations as they affect the house, as well as humidity, which could cause mold in the walls." But insurers and policyholders will have to come to an agreement as to how that data would affect premiums before carriers can even think of requiring its installation in covered properties.
