A Brave New World
Former Penn National Insurance CIO Jane Koppenheffer will finally get her chance to experience the agency side of the business. After a 24-year career with the carrier, she joins The Insurance Alliance of Central Pennsylvania (IACP; Camp Hill, Pa.) - 12 regional insurance agencies that write approximately $300 million in premium annually - as president and CEO. "I was getting antsy to get back on the operations side," she relates. "I missed having the interaction with the agents and being on the front lines of the insurance business."
Among her duties at the IACP, Koppenheffer will be the key liaison with the insurance carriers with which IACP members write business. "They have contracts with over 30 insurance carriers," she says. "My role will be to help make sure that relationship is solid moving forward."
Koppenheffer believes her experience on the carrier side will serve her well in her new role. "I can talk to carriers about underwriting, about marketing, about product development or information technology," she notes. That technical expertise will help the IACP face automation challenges caused by multiple agency management systems, she adds.
