CIC Saves With Captiva
Cincinnati Insurance Companies (CIC; Cincinnati), the lead property/casualty insurance subsidiary of Cincinnati Financial Corp. ($144 million in net income, first quarter 2005), is on track to save $5 million annually with the eScan electronic document solution from Captiva Software (San Diego), according to the insurer. The software enables CIC's field representatives to electronically gather, organize and submit supplemental claims information.
"The previous method of documenting claims evidence was time-consuming and costly," relates Jim Vickers, chief marketing officer at Captiva. "Field representatives used to take pictures with a 35mm camera and write notes by hand, which incurred large costs for film development and postage, and waiting for the materials to arrive in the mail slowed the claims processing time," he continues.
Rather than scan paper content to create digital files, CIC field representatives now organize and index digital images, photographs, voice recordings and other electronic files through eScan's Web-based thin-client interface and submit them to CIC headquarters via InputAccel, Captiva's document capture software, which automatically attaches digital files to related claim files. "CIC first utilized the eScan system during the 2004 hurricane season in Florida," says Vickers. "Even with the larger-than-usual volume of evidence that field representatives had to collect, CIC was able to reduce claims processing times and cut costs by submitting evidence electronically."
