Good morning from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, where steady winds from Hurricane Sandy are churning the nearby New York Harbor. I live and work in a home office in this neighborhood, in an apartment about a block and a half from the water. My residence is on the border of New York City hurricane zones B and C, so we were not under an evacuation order, which only covered zone A. This is because Bay Ridge is at a fairly high elevation from the water.

But of course, we do enjoy the occasional jog and picnic by the water. That's why there is a city-maintained pier and pathway along the harbor. This morning, I went there to see the effects of Sandy's early bands. As you can see, the situation is deteriorating along the water.
