CSC Introduces FuturEdge Application Modernization Services Suite

The modular suite of services is designed to replace ad hoc, technology-focused decision-making with a business-led portfolio management strategy aimed at increasing agility, reducing costs and decreasing business and operational risk.

This morning CSC announced the introduction of FuturEdge, a modular modernization suite designed to help clients to modernize their application software portfolios, at the vendor's Connect for Property and Casualty user conference in Nashville, Tenn. FuturEdge unifies CSC's experience, processes and automation tools that have been developed and used across a broad range of applications, technologies and environments over many years and hundreds of projects, according to the vendor.

"CSC is helping clients take a systematic approach to deciding how to evolve their application portfolios to rapidly increase agility, reduce costs and decrease business and operational risk," comments Jim Cook, president of CSC's Business Solutions and Services business unit, which includes all of CSC's cross-industry private sector business.

The FuturEdge business-led services employ what CSC calls an industrialized framework, advanced automation, delivery accelerators and best practices in application management in order to help organizations contending with aging, costly and complex application portfolios and seeking help to make and implement decisions regarding application retirement, replacement or other transformational activities. The full life-cycle scope of the services suite includes analyzing, aligning, modernizing, managing and continuously improving organizations' application portfolios, regardless of size, industry or geographic location. The services can used end to end or focused on a single application, platform assessment or transformation project, according to CSC.

"To have the ability to fund upcoming and agility-oriented projects, it is imperative that firms focus on reducing the ongoing maintenance costs associated with running the IT environment and lowering the total cost of ownership for hardware and software," comments Kimberly Harris-Ferrante, vice president and distinguished analyst, Gartner. "This means simplifying the IT environment, moving to lower-cost platforms and reducing redundancy in applications throughout the enterprise while ensuring scalability and optimal performance."

Nick Wilkinson, president of market and product strategy, Managed Services, CSC, says, "The FuturEdge systematic approach replace ad hoc decisions made on the basis of technology with a business-led portfolio management strategy, enabling our clients to explicitly link their applications to the business value they deliver."
