Esurance Goes Paperless
To make its claims operation paperless, San Francisco-based Esurance ($116 million in premium) licensed Optical Image Technology's (OIT; State College, Pa.) DocFinity Suite of products. "Esurance focuses on selling policies to the customer completely online, and we wanted to focus on claims the same way," says Mark Hofmann, Esurance's claims technology manager.
Though the carrier initially evaluated imaging applications, after examining OIT's offering, the carrier's IT organization is considering using a wider set of applications for other uses. "Each department is now looking at the suite and using the modules that will best fit their business," Hofmann says.
The solution's flexibility, ease of implementation, functionality and cost drove the decision, Hoffman adds. "With DocFinity, you can purchase multiple components or just the base units, where other [vendors' solutions] were more of an all-or-nothing proposition."
