Smith joined Hannover Life Re in 1997, from which time he has directed the carrier's IT organization. Since 2001, he has served on Hannover Re's international IT steering committee, which coordinated the company's global IT efforts.
As CIO, Smith will be responsible for the overall direction of Hannover Life Re's IT initiatives in support of the organization's strategic goals. As a result of Hannover Re's recent acquisition of ING's individual life reinsurance business from Scottish Re, Smith's immediate focus will include participation as a member of a newly formed Technology Integration Committee. In that role he will oversee a significant portion of the integration of organic and acquired production systems, according to a Hannover Life Re source.
