Flying High
I started flying in 1974. Flying has always fascinated me -- my father and I went to air shows when I was a child.
I remember the first time I flew. The plane was just a small trainer and I was with an instructor, but it was still exhilarating. There were these big puffy cumulus clouds and we flew through them and around them in the summer sky.
Since that day I've flown everything from a small trainer to a large military craft. I own an airplane today called a Super Decathlon. I do what I like to call "gentlemanly acrobatics" with it. It gives you a thrill, but what it really does is give you a unique perspective on the world and on life.
I was fortunate to be able to share some of my aviation passion with my son. He is 25 now, but we've been flying small radio-controlled aircraft together since he was 11.
