Former Tower Group CIO Joins MajescoMastek

Sal Abano, who was one of Insurance & Technology's Elite 8 insurance CIOs last year, is now an EVP at the insurance core systems vendor.

MajescoMastek announced yesterday that Salvatore Abano, the former CIO of insurer Tower Group International, has joined the core systems vendor as EVP and chief of strategy and client services.

In his new position, Abano, who was named one of Insurance & Technology's Elite 8 executives last year, is responsible for growth and customer service initiatives.

"[Abano's] wealth of skills, experience, know-how, and ability to achieve great results are evident in his professional accomplishment and success, as well as his stellar military record," MajescoMastek CEO Kehtan Mehta said in a statement. "With the industry turning to MajescoMastek for their large transfornation programs, Sal's hands-on IT leadership experiences and expertise will help our teams serve our customers better. His CIO insights and perspectives for so many years will be leveraged by our services/delivery teams to better understand customer side issues, risks and expectations in complex replacement initiatives. Sal will not only mentor our services leaders but will also take-on various strategic initiatives that will facilitate our growth in coming years."

In addition to Tower Group, Abano has worked at QBE, Kemper Insurance, Munich Re and AIG. He also spent 25 years in the Army and Marines, including stints in Iraq.
