Hartford-based health carrier Aetna, which promoted Michael Mathias from CTO to CIO late last year, has filled the CTO slot with another new promotion.
Richard Leonard, who had been head of head of systems architecture and the company's M&A IT services team, takes over as CTO. With Aetna since 1996, he was responsible in his most recent position for strategy and architecture, as well as assessing the technology and driving the technical integration of acquisition targets.
“Rich brings strong technical expertise and a deep understanding of Aetna’s IT systems to his new role,” Mathias says in a statement. “As the head of systems architecture and the company’s mergers & acquisitions IT services team, he has had great exposure to how Aetna’s IT infrastructure supports the company’s strategy.”
