Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance will deploy the Accenture Duck Creek Suite of policy administration, claims and billing software through a software as a service (SaaS) model, the companies announced today.

"Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance is a rapidly growing business and needs a robust and flexible core insurance IT platform that gives us a competitive advantage," said James Roser, the CIO BHSI who was appointed last September, in a statement. "We expect Accenture Duck Creek to help us achieve key business objectives including accelerated product launches, enhanced claims management and a streamlined billing process. The combination of the full-scale functionality of the Accenture Duck Creek Suite and its ability to offer these capabilities as a cloud solution makes Accenture the ideal business partner for this highly strategic initiative."

The cloud has become increasingly popular for insurance companies who are looking to reduce infrastructure costs. The Hartford announced a cloud agreement with IBM last month. Berkshire Hathaway last was in the news after acquiring a telematics company in January.
