Elite 8 2010 Honorees: Where Are They Now?
Greg Schwartz, SVP and CIO, USAA
Members Are Priority No. 1
Greg Schwartz, SVP and CIO of San Antonio-based USAA, says his job has remained much the same in the year following his Elite 8 2010 recognition. "There may be specific issues that need to be addressed on a day-to-day basis, but my overarching responsibilities have remained the same: Make sure our members have access to their insurance, banking and investment accounts at all times, and make sure our employees have the tools they need to take care of our members," he explains. But that's not to say his job is easy.
According to Schwartz, USAA is growing fast, and supporting the financial services firm's growing capacity needs will be a top priority for him in 2012. His IT vision, he says, is to innovate, integrate and manage technology solutions. "At the same time, it's important that USAA employees have the necessary tools they need to maintain the high level of service our members expect," he reiterates.
USAA's IT project prioritization is dictated by its strategic priorities and business needs, Schwartz adds. "The turmoil in the economy has been tough, but new regulatory and compliance requirements have caused more change in prioritization of IT project funding than any other external influence," he admits. "Despite these changes in priority, our focus remains delivering the best technology solutions for our members and ensuring they are always available on our members' channels of choice."
