Even as the economy has stumbled, insurers' confidence in growth opportunities has led to shifting staffing needs and slightly higher salaries for insurance IT staff as carriers resume large-scale projects aimed at increasing efficiency and improving the customer experience, according to the 2012 InformationWeek U.S. IT Salary Survey. The gender gap seems to be widening at all job levels. In 2010 the median annual base salary for male and female insurance IT managers and staff were the same. But that picture is changing in 2012. The median total annual cash compensation for IT staff, including base salary and cash bonuses, was 8% higher for men than for women. In management, men earn 14% more.
