A few thoughts about this interesting analysis. First -- I think there is a lot health insurers can learn from P&C carriers around claims management, telematics, and as you say analytics. But P&C firms also are in a different regulatory and competitive environment so the comparisons only go so far. Second, I agree that health insurers have a long way to go in terms of optimizing analytics, but it's not like they haven't recognized the potential at all. Look at the WellPoint/Anthem alliance with IBM Watson, or the initiatives at firms such as Capital Blue Cross around deploying analytics for wellness, provider performance, etc. Third, agree that infrastructure is a challenge -- also because of all the integration/interaction requirements (with providers, customers, service providers, government entities such as Medicare, etc.). Fourth - I think a lot of the security issues in health insurance will have to do with privacy and protecting customer information -- as the health insurance industry moves increasingly to the "consumerization" model and works more directly with insureds (vs employers), data access and sharing will be key -- but where are the limits?
