Northwestern Mutual Promotes Former IT Exec to President

The appointment is intended to improve field force and deliver financial security to clients.

Northwestern Mutual has named Greg Oberland president in a move that brings marketing, sales and agency responsibility under one function. The insurer plans to grow its field force and improve financial security for clients.

Oberland is currently EVP of products, sales and marketing at Northwestern. He joined the company as an attorney in 1982 and transferred to the business side five years later, where he has had increasing executive-level responsibility for various product lines and operational areas including Life Underwriting, Policyowner Services, Disability Income Insurance and Information Systems.

“Greg is a respected leader who has done a phenomenal job bringing our planning and sales processes and product strategies together,” says John Schlifske, Northwestern Mutual chairman and CEO, in a statement. “He also has earlier experience aligning large complex groups in various parts of the organization with company strategy. Now we want to draw from his talent as a corporate leader to build on that and make the connections among agencies, sales and marketing even tighter.”
