NY Life's Tait Gives Back

Jorge Tait, a member of New York Life's (New York, $138.2 billion assets under management) advisory board of corporate responsibility, is an active volunteer through the company-sponsored Volunteers for LIFE program, through which he works with Big Brothers/Big Sisters. One of 25 current mentors who meet with their charges every two weeks for a couple of hours, Tait has been with his 15-year-old "little brother" for three years, meeting on site at NYL and at field trips which the carrier sponsors. "We meet with the kids every other week, offer guidance, and help with homework," Tait says. "We also introduce them to the corporate world and we share with them some of what we do at work."

Tait participates in NYL's Technology Enhancement Program-which unites technology professionals and young students for seminar-like introductory sessions-and works with City Harvest to collect food from greenmarkets to take to homeless shelters. He also serves as civilian coordinator for the 67th Precinct Progressive Youth Council, where he helps train young people in peer-to-peer counseling and mediation, and drives a variety of community benefit activities.

Tait's dedication is based partly on the examples of his father and his sister, and partly on enjoyment. "I love to give back to the community however I can," he says.
