William Awad has been named Chief Technology Officer (CTO) by The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. (Hartford, Conn.). Awad, who most recent served as CTO at Travelers, will report to Brian O’Connell, The Hartford’s Chief Information Officer.

“I’m delighted to welcome William to The Hartford,” said O’Connell in a press release. “William has a real ability to bring about strategic technology transformation and has shown both outstanding leadership and technology depth in addition to a strong record of delivery. As our CTO, William will formulate and develop the technical vision, strategy and plans needed to well equip The Hartford for its third century.”

As CTO, Awad will drive enterprise technology strategy and policy across the organization. He will also define the overall architectural direction and standards for the company, and have management responsibility for technical strategy, architecture, IT standards, vendor management for technical products, technical innovation and architecture governance.

As Travelers’ CTO, Awad led the engineering, IT operations, and enterprise infrastructure technical architecture areas. From 1995 through early 2004, Awad served as Senior Executive, Financial Services Operating Group for Accenture, where his responsibilities ranged from large program management of complex system implementations to development of enterprise architecture models and implementation roadmaps.
