WSI Unveils Hurricane Forecast Service

Andover, Mass.-based WSI Corporation has teamed up with Guy Carpenter & Company (New York) to launch WSI LiveCat Forecast, a service which leverages meteorological models to predict the direction, intensity, duration and US landfall probability of a named hurricane, up to ten days before it hits.

The new service will start forecasting named tropical storms and hurricanes beginning in June 2008 by tracking the intensity of storms twice daily; predicting the landfall probability for each storm using storm-specific track uncertainty, as opposed to historical error statistics; and forecasting the storm with accuracy comparable to the National Hurricane Center.
