Aflac Names New CIO

Julia K. Davis hired as SVP/CIO; former CIO at American Safety Insurance replaces Michael Boyle, who has left the insurer.

With responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives of Aflac Inc.'s Information Technology Division, Julia K. Davis has been hired as senior vice president and chief information officer. She replaces the previous CIO, Michael Boyle, who joined the Columbus, Ga.-based supplemental insurance carrier in August 2011. Boyle has left the company, according to Aflac.

Davis, who will report to Teresa L. White, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Aflac Columbus, has more than 28 years of experience in the information technology industry. She most recently served as chief information officer at American Safety Insurance (ASI), where she actively led an initiative to build the technology infrastructure to support the company's objective of revenue growth from $250 million to $1 billion over five years.

"Julia brings diverse and valuable expertise to the CIO role," White noted in a company statement. "Her leadership skills, technical knowledge, commitment to driving results, and collaborative approach are key attributes, especially as Aflac strives to develop systems and support to help serve our customers better than anyone else."

Prior to her tenure at ASI, Davis served as CIO of the Equipment Finance Division for GE Capital Healthcare Financial Services and GE Capital Business Productivity Solutions. She also held IT leadership positions at GE Energy, Armstrong World Industries, Information Builders, Ogden Government Services and CRSS Services, Inc. Davis began her career in the U.S. Air Force as a software engineer and earned the rank of captain.
