AIG's Bob Benmosche Reflects on His Career (Video)
If there is any insurance industry executive who has earned the right to wax philosophical about his career and outlook for the future, it is Robert H. Benmosche, president and CEO of AIG and former CEO of MetLife. Benmosche, who Insurance & Technology named a "2011 Mover & Shaker," (as well as a "person to watch" in 2010) continues to juggle the demands of returning AIG to financial health with a recent diagnosis of cancer. In a recent interview with the New York Times as part of its "DealBook Portraits" series, Benmosche discussed his unconventional work history, assesses his efforts to turn around AIG, and reflects on his thoughts for the future in light of the cancer diagnosis.
In the video interview, Benmosche proudly notes that, after working for seven years as a Coca Cola truck driver and salesman, he started his career in technology, having programmed his first computer in 1964. In 2001 I&T identified Benmosche as one of the insurance industry's "Tech-Savvy CEOs" for his sponsorship of transformational technology initiatives at MetLife.
