Aetna Names J.P. Morgan Vet New CISO

James Routh has joined Aetna as chief information security officer responsible for the overall program around the health insurer's information assets.

James Routh has joined Hartford-based health insurer Aetna as chief information security officer. He is responsible for Aetna's "information security vision, strategy and overall program to ensure its global information assets are adequately protected," according to a company statement.

Routh last served as global head of application security for J.P. Morgan Chase. His more than 20 years of information security experience also includes time as the CISO for KPMG, DTCC and American Express.

[Aetna sticks by work-at-home arrangement]

"I am very pleased to have Jim Routh join us at Aetna. Jim is a veteran information security leader in information technology risk management, and has a strong balance of business acumen and technology knowledge," said Meg McCarthy, executive vice president of Innovation, Technology and Service Operations at Aetna, in a statement. "Jim is a recognized practitioner, management consultant and leader of technology functions and information security functions for some of the world's leading global financial services firms, and will help Aetna to continue to maintain the strictest information security standards in the changing world of health care."

Aetna CIO Michael Mathias left the company to join Blue Shield of California earlier this year.
