"Under Bob's guidance, our individual P&C businesses will work together to assure consistent underwriting practice and standards are followed across our business lines so that XL Insurance continues to achieve its high-level of underwriting excellence," Maag says in a statement.

Before joining XL, Shine headed the Zurich North America Casualty Group, Specialties Business Unit. He has also worked at AIG's American Home Assurance Company and the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company.
