MAPFRE Commerce Insurance Brings Telematics to Massachussetts
MAPFRE Commerce Insurance, a Webster, Mass.-based personal lines carrier, is introducing the DriveAdvisor usage-based insurance product in its home state.
Currently, drivers with fewer than three years of driving experience are eligible to participate in the program, which involves installing an on-board telematics device that stores and transmits data on acceleration, braking, vehicle speed, and number of miles driven. MAPFRE Commerce also provides driver feedback through a web portal.
"MAPFRE Commerce Insurance is proud to offer telematics technology to our Massachusetts drivers. We believe this is a great tool for parents to monitor and help inexperienced drivers," said Jaime Tamayo, President and CEO of MAPFRE Commerce Insurance, in a statement.

In addition to young drivers, MAPFRE Commerce says "DriveAdvisor is also being made available to more experienced drivers with a driving history that may need improvement, subject to eligibility requirements."
Another MAPFRE division introduced DriveAdvisor in Oregon earlier this year. DriveAdvisor is also available in Rhode Island.
